UK Defence Minister Dismisses UFOs as a Potential Threat, No Need to Investigate

Article by Press Association 2021                                           June 30, 2021                                                      (leighjournal.co.uk)

• The recent release of an Interim Pentagon UFO report concluded that the UFO phenomena ‘could be military aircraft with very fast capabilities or even extraterrestrial’. At the minimum, said the report, the UFOs “clearly pose a safety of flight issue and may pose a challenge to US national security.” Of 144 UFO sightings by US military pilots since 2004, all but one remains unexplained, according to the report.

• Raising the US report in the British Parliament, former Conservative Party treasurer Lord Sarfraz said, “For decades people who have been concerned with UFOs have been dismissed as fantasists. But now the US Director of National Intelligence, who oversees 17 intelligence agencies, has published a report saying that data on UFOs is inconclusive.”

• So does the British Ministry of Defence take reports of UFOs in British airspace seriously? Defence Minister Baroness Goldie (pictured above) responded: “The MoD deals with actual threats substantiated by evidence.” “The Government continues to take any potential threat to the UK seriously.” However, “in over 50 years no such reporting had indicated the existence of any military threat to the United Kingdom”. Therefore, the British Government has no plans to conduct its own investigation into UFOs.

• Tory peer Viscount Ridley chimed in: “Unidentified does not mean suspicious… The idea that in an era of mobile phone cameras, drones and frequent travel there could possibly be alien spaceships whizzing about undetected in our atmosphere on a regular basis is not I think very plausible. It’s much more likely that these blurred images have boring explanations, alas.”

• Lady Goldie said: “The UK air defence community detects and monitors all flying air systems 24 hours a day to provide an identified air picture as part of the UK’s national security posture and our commitment to the integrity of NATO airspace.” Typhoon combat aircraft in Scotland and in Lincolnshire are “held at high readiness ready to intercept any threat to UK airspace”. Dismissing UFOs, Lady Goldie stated: “We deal with actual threats substantiated by evidence.”

• Labour frontbencher Lord Coaker pointed out that “the Pentagon has said that ‘unidentified aerial phenomena’ are actually a serious national security threat. When asked if she agreed with that assessment, Lady Goldie remarked: “We are of course aware of the US assessment… We regard threats as having to exist in the first place. We regard them as having to be substantiated by evidence and that’s because we need to know what we are addressing and how best we can address it. The MoD has no plans to conduct its own report into UAP because in over 50 years no such reporting had indicated the existence of any military threat to the United Kingdom.”

Assurances were sought at Westminster following the publication of a Pentagon

           Eurofighter Typhoon jets

report which said the phenomena “may pose a challenge to US national security”.

However, the British Government has said it has no plans to conduct its own investigation into unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), better known to the public as UFOs, “because in over 50 years no such reporting had indicated the existence of any military threat to the United Kingdom”.

The interim Pentagon report said of 144 sightings by military pilots since 2004, all but one remain unexplained.

It also said while there were “no clear indications that there is any non-terrestrial explanation” for the objects, it also did not rule it out.

        Viscount Matt Ridley

Pointing out they “probably lack a single explanation”, it added: “UAP clearly pose a safety of flight issue and may pose a challenge to US national security.”

Raising the US report in Parliament, former Conservative Party treasurer Lord Sarfraz said: “For decades people who have been concerned with UFOs have been dismissed as fantasists.

“But now the US director of national intelligence, who oversees 17 intelligence agencies, has published a report saying that data on UFOs is inconclusive.

         Lord Vernon Coaker

“The report offers several possible explanations.

“It does not rule out that these could be military aircraft with very fast capabilities or even extraterrestrial phenomena.

“Either way can the minister reassure members of the public that the Ministry of Defence (MoD) takes reports of unidentified objects in our airspace very seriously?”

Responding, defence minister Baroness Goldie said: “The MoD deals with actual threats

UFOs not a threat to the UK

substantiated by evidence.

“The Government continues to take any potential threat to the UK seriously.”

Tory peer Viscount Ridley said: “Unidentified does not mean suspicious.

“Does the minister recognise the US report referred to says there is no clear indication that there is any non-terrestrial explanation for the 144 sightings?

“The idea that in an era of mobile phone cameras, drones and frequent travel there could possibly be alien spaceships whizzing about undetected in our atmosphere on a regular basis is not I think very plausible.

James Penniston’s Testimony at Citizen Hearing for UFO Disclosure in 2013

Article by Simon Green                                               June 7, 2021                                                         (dailystar.co.uk)

• In late December 1980, US Air Force Sergeant James Penniston was stationed at RAF Woodbridge in Suffolk, England when the infamous ‘Rendlesham Forest incident’ occurred. The incident involved a series of sightings of unexplained lights descending into the forest adjacent to the base. The British Ministry of Defence said whatever occurred posed no threat to national security and so it was never fully investigated. Skeptics have dismissed it as a series of nocturnal lights or even a fireball.

• Penniston appeared at the Citizen Hearing for UFO Disclosure in 2013 (pictured above) – a mock congressional hearing where 40 UFO witnesses testified to five Congressman and one Senator – to recount his experience. (see Citizen Hearing website here) He claimed that a UFO landed in the forest, and he walked up to it and touched it. “As I came around (the craft) I’ve seen there is an inscription on the front.” Penniston was able to draw the “inscription”, and showed it to the Congressmen. “That’s what I saw.” A copy of his drawing shows what appears to be five discernible objects that don’t bear any similarity to Earth’s languages.

• “It was smooth to touch,” Penniston continued. “I looked down and there was no wing but it was about two feet off the ground. I’m pushing the craft but it doesn’t move. It’s solid as can be. Unbeknownst to me, it was radioactive which is probably why it was warm. Then as I walked around it I realized it definitely wasn’t anything we had. And it sure as hell wasn’t anything the Russians had.” (see below the full 2013 Citizen Hearing on UFO Disclosure video pertaining to the Rendlesham Forest Incident.)

                   James Penniston

A retired United States Air Force (USAF) sergeant has claimed he touched a UFO and was

                        drawing of craft by Penniston

even able to draw the “inscription” it had on its side.

Sergeant James Penniston was stationed at RAF Woodbridge when the infamous Rendlesham Forest incident occurred in late December 1980.

Known as “Britain’s Roswell”, the incident involved a series of reported sightings of unexplained lights descending into Rendlesham Forest in Suffolk in late December 1980.

At the time, the Ministry of Defense said whatever occurred posed no threat to national security and it was never investigated

the five objects Penniston saw etched on the side of the UFO craft

fully.

And sceptics have often dismissed it as a series of nocturnal lights or even a fireball.

But, nevertheless, Sgt. Penniston’s account continues to amaze and baffle.

He appeared at Citizen Hearing – a mock congressional hearing where 40 UFO witnesses testified to five congressman and one senator – to recount his experience.

“I got up and composed myself just a little bit,” he said. “As I came around I’ve seen there is an inscription on the front.

“That’s what I saw.” A copy of his drawing shows what appears to be five discernible objects that don’t bear any similarity to Earth’s languages.

UK Government Bans Release of Secret UFO Dossier Leaving Experts Furious

Article by Paul Sims                                October 9, 2020                                 (thesun.co.uk)

• In 1990, two Perthshire, Scotland hikers watched the 100ft “diamond-shaped metallic craft” hovering over the village of Calvine in the Scottish Highlands for ten minutes before it shot up vertically out of sight. They also said that they saw military jets fly a series of low-level passes. And they took six photos to prove it. UFO investigator Nick Pope helped colorize the image (seen above).

• The photographs were turned over to British Ministry of Defence officials. Pursuant to the “30-year rule”, these photos were to be declassified and made public on January 1, 2021. But the Ministry of Defence has announced that the release of the photos will be blocked until 2072 – without explanation. The MoD released a redacted version of the file, which includes a blurred photocopy of the original UFO image.

• Former MoD UFO investigator, Nick Pope stated: “Despite an extensive investigation, we never found a definitive explanation for what was seen at Calvine”, said to be one of the most intriguing of all the UFO mysteries. “By the time the world gets to see the file, the two witnesses will be dead. It is crazy. What are the authorities trying to hide?” The redacted file also omitted the names and contact details of the hikers.

• A Freedom of Information Act complaint lodged against the National Archives for withholding the documents is now under investigation by the ‘Information Commissioner’s Office’, a UK information watchdog. The National Archives and the MoD refused to comment.

UFO experts hit out when it emerged a dossier into Britain’s most significant sighting is to be kept secret for another 50 years.

                 Nick Pope

The file is said to contain astonishing colour photographs of a 100ft craft hovering over the village of Calvine in the Scottish Highlands in 1990.

A 30-year rule meant it was due to be declassified on January 1 — but the Ministry of Defence has now blocked release until 2072 without explanation.

Photographs were taken by two Perthshire hikers who watched the “diamond-shaped metallic craft” for ten minutes before it shot up vertically out of sight.

They also claimed to see military jets fly a series of low-level passes.

Evidence collected and held on to by officials included the hikers’ six colour snaps.

A redacted version of the file has been released, including just a blurred photocopied image.

UFO investigator Nick Pope helped colourise the image, seen above.

Last night, Mr Pope said: “Despite an extensive investigation, we never found a definitive explanation for what was seen at Calvine.”

A UFO hunter added: “This is all so frustrating. The Calvine Incident is one of the most intriguing of all the UFO mysteries from that period.

“Under the 30-year rule, the file should have been released on January 1 2021, but if the ministry get their way it won’t be released until January 1 2072 — an 82-year closure.

“By the time the world gets to see the file, the two witnesses will be dead. It is crazy. What are the authorities trying to hide?”

Ministry of Defence Releases Final ‘X Files’ Containing the Truth About Britain’s Secret UFO Investigations

by Jasper Hamill                   June 4, 2019                       (metro.co.uk)

• Over the past 11 years, the British Ministry of Defence (MoD) has declassified 60,000 pages exposing the secrets of a government investigation into unexplained UFO sightings over the UK. In April, the last pair of files were published and made available to the public at the British National Archives.

• The latest files to be released do not contain a smoking gun which proves the existence of aliens. But they reveal fascinating aspects of investigators’ attempt to understand the phenomenon. They expose bitter arguments between a conservative MoD division that imposed a policy of secrecy with UFOs and the more open-minded Defence Intelligence Staff (DIS), resulting in a total breakdown of communications.

• Said Nick Pope, former MoD UFO investigator, “The (released documents) show how a ‘skeptic versus believer’ debate was raging at the MoD, with a total breakdown in relations.” The policy division was overly-concerned about what the media and the public might think, while the DIS wanted to conduct more in-depth research and investigation into the phenomenon.

• In America, details of a secret research program called AATIP showed that the US government has studied sightings of advanced aircraft and ‘exotic technologies’ including wormholes, antigravity, invisibility cloaking, warp drives and high energy laser weapons. Investigators have even explored the health ‘consequences’ of close encounters.

• Pope says, “The recent release of the final British government UFO files couldn’t have come at a better time. Interest in UFOs is at an all-time high.” “The US Navy in particular is trying to de-stigmatize the issue so that Navy pilots who encounter these mystery objects will make an official report, instead of staying silent, as most do at present.”

Over the past 11 years, the MoD has declassified 60,000 pages exposing the secrets of a government investigation into unexplained sightings over the UK. In April, the last pair of files were published and made available to the public at the National Archives in Kew, where they must be viewed in person because they have not yet been digitised. The latest files to be released do not contain a smoking gun which proves the existence of aliens, but they reveal fascinating aspects of investigators’ attempt to understand the phenomenon. They expose bitter arguments between a division that set the policy on UFOs and the Defence Intelligence Staff (DIS) resulting in a total breakdown of communications. The team which set policy on UFOs was shown to be cautious and worried about what the public might think of a probe into unexplained aircraft spotted in the skies, whilst the DIS was more open-minded and called for further investigation into the mystery.

                    Nick Pope

Nick Pope, a former MoD UFO investigator, has been studying the files and said they also demonstrate the UK’s influence on the US, where ‘bombshell revelations about the US Navy’s encounters with UFOs have moved this subject out of the fringe and into the mainstream’. He told Metro: ‘These last two files are particularly fascinating and I can understand why sensitivities over their contents may have delayed their release. ‘They show how a sceptic versus believer debate was raging at the MoD, with a total breakdown in relations between the division that set the policy on UFOs and the Defence Intelligence Staff (DIS), who provided the lead division with scientific and technical intelligence.
