Former Navy Pilot Recalls Seeing UFOs Daily Off of Virginia Beach

• On May 16th, former Navy pilot Lt. Ryan Graves told CBS’s Bill Whitaker on “60 Minutes” that he would see UFOs flying in restricted airspace off the coast of Virginia nearly every day for two years beginning in 2019. ”[I]f these were tactical jets from another country that were hanging out up there, it would be a massive issue,” Graves said. “But because it looks slightly different, we’re not willing to actually look at the problem in the face. • Navy pilots who have seen the UFOs believe they could be a secret US technology, enemy surveillance devices, or something entirely different, said Graves. “This is a difficult one to explain. You have rotation, you have high altitudes. You have propulsion… I don’t know what it is, frankly.” Graves considers the UFOs like ones seen in a Pentagon-confirmed Navy video near San Diego and the ones he’s witnessed off of Virginia Beach a security threat. “I would say…the highest probability is it’s a threat observation program,” Graves said.

• The former head of the Pentagon’s UFO threat identification program Luis Elizondo concurs with Graves. “Imagine a technology that can do 600 to 700 G-forces, that can fly 13,000 miles an hour, that, that can evade radar and can fly through air and water and possibly space, and oh, by the way, has no obvious signs of propulsion, no wings, no control surfaces and yet still can defy the natural effects of Earth’s gravity,” says Elizondo. “That’s precisely what we’re seeing,”.

Former Lt. Ryan Graves told CBS’s “60 Minutes” that the unidentified objects — like ones seen in a Pentagon-confirmed Navy video near San Diego — are a security threat.

The latest firsthand account comes a month ahead of a report by the national intelligence director and secretary of defense on unidentified aerial phenomena, a measure that was including in a COVID-19 relief bill passed in December.

Military Leaders Provide Insight Into the Re-Established US Space Command

• On May 7th, several of the newest top officials in the U.S. Space Command appeared during a Space Foundation virtual ‘Symposium365’ talk. The members of Space Command, which was re-established 19 months ago and whose geographic area of responsibility starts 100 kilometers above the surface of the Earth, intentionally come from diverse backgrounds. Only a few come from Space Force – so far.

• Army General James H. Dickinson leads U.S. Space Command from its provisional headquarters at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, although the Department of the Air Force may ultimately choose to select Redstone Arsenal, Alabama as U.S. Space Command’s permanent home. Either way, more partner organizations will be “coming to work” over the next 12 to 18 months. “[O]ne of our strongest deterrence capabilities…within the command is that strong allied and partner integration that we have,” said Dickinson, whose background is in missile defense. “So our ability to be able to capture that energy and start bringing those folks into the command itself is very powerful.”

• One way the U.S. Space Command tries to expand the pool of international partners is by inviting countries to take part in the space situational awareness exercise under ‘Global Sentinel’. Ten partners including the U.S. took part in the last Global Sentinel in 2019. Invitations to participate in Global Sentinel serve “as a lead-in to signing space situational awareness agreements with these partner nations,” says Space Force Colonel Devin R. Pepper, deputy director of U.S. Space Command’s Strategy, Plans, and Policy Directorate and garrison commander of soon-to-be Buckley Space Force Base in Colorado. Chile and Poland are the newest partner nation prospects.

• Air Force Maj. Gen. William G. Holt II spent his career as a special operations pilot before becoming U.S. Space Command’s director of operations, training, and force development. He characterized the command’s makeup as an even mix of Air Force, Army and Navy backgrounds, with a “handful of Marines”. Holt credited Space Force Chief of Space of Operations Gen. John W. “Jay” Raymond with the level of ‘jointness’ intended “to change the dynamic and really bring in a warfighting … viewpoint from across the force. “[H]aving the different backgrounds as far as the different services, I think, was really critical to [Raymond] bringing me in.”

• The Space Command is looking ahead to when the military will want to operate beyond Earth orbit. “More and more nations are operating in space,” said the U.S. Space Command’s senior enlisted leader, Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sgt. Scott H. Stalker. He cited the United Arab Emirates’ Hope Mars Mission satellite orbiting the red planet as “the first planetary science mission led by an Arab Islamic country.” Stalker, formerly with the DIA and U.S. Cyber Command, acknowledged that, “We are no longer the undisputed leaders in space.”

• U.S. Space Command’s Deputy Director of Intelligence Sean M. Kirkpatrick said, “We’ve got a huge Moon competition going on. We’ve got a Mars competition going on… We are going to have to extend our mission space to the cislunar, lunar, and Martian orbits and regimes at some point in the not-too-distant future.” To gather intelligence in deep space, the US needs to take advantage of space technology that the commercial sector will provide. “The customary five to ten-year time frame for a defense acquisition program would take too long.”

• Army Brig. Gen. Thomas L. James served in Operation Desert Storm in the 1990s when GPS was brand new and unreliable. “The way they operated then— because it was only a partial (communications satellite) constellation — is some of the time, you knew where you were with great precision. Some of the time, you knew that you didn’t know where you were at all based off of the GPS. And some of the time, you thought you might know where you are.” Today, General James is “passionate” about having space itself as a resource.

Special-ops aviators, a physicist from the intelligence community, and an enlisted Marine with decades of deployments: U.S. Space Command’s military and civilian leaders who spoke May 7 were as likely to come from strictly space backgrounds as not.

UFO Pentagon Report Could Spark an Alien ‘Arms Race’

• Last year, the US Department of Defense authorized the release of three unclassified Navy videos of mysterious UFOs from 2004 and 2015. The Pentagon verified they were investigating the incidents under a new UAP Task Force. “The mission of the task force is to detect, analyze and catalog UAPs that could potentially pose a threat to US national security,” stated the DoD.

• More recently, videos were released that showed UFOs swarming around Navy warships. Last December, as part of his coronavirus relief bill, President Trump ordered the Pentagon to release all of its information on UAP/UFOs. This report is due for release by the end of June.

• Cristina Gomez, host of Paradigm Shifts UFO Channel on YouTube, said the report’s release could be dangerous if it confirms the existence of alien technology on Earth. But if the report points to extraterrestrials, Gomez thinks that the Pentagon would likely blame UFOs on “suspected foreign adversary drone technologies”, to avoid revealing their ‘off-world’ origin.

• “If a government was to acquire concrete evidence that these craft that are flying in our skies and traveling in our oceans are originating from one or more extraterrestrial civilizations, it would be entirely prudent of them to investigate whether or not they represented an existential threat to us as a species,” said Gomez. “I can imagine then that the entire subject would receive the very highest security classification during that investigative process.”

• Ms Gomez says that if alien technology is uncovered by the report, it could destabilize global relations and lead to a new type of “arms race”. “[I]f such were the case that the concrete evidence consisted of (UFO) wreckage, or at least some recovered components of vastly superior technology, then logically there would be the concern of such technology falling into the hands of one or more of their foreign adversaries. Not only would the government in question not want to alert other nations to the fact that it now possessed extraterrestrial technology, but it would also have a sudden need to know if other nations also had in their possession and were studying similar technological artifacts.” “It could and would be seen at the highest levels as a new form of military arms race.”

• Luis Elizondo, a whistleblower and former head of the Pentagon’s ‘Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program’, told the New York Post the US “acknowledged the reality of UAP”, and that there is a connection between UAP/UFO sightings and nuclear technology. “[W]e’ve actually had some of our nuclear capabilities disabled by these things,” said Elizondo. “There is absolutely evidence that UAPs have an active interest in our nuclear technology.”

 

Former President Donald Trump ordered the Pentagon to release all of its information on “unidentified aerial phenomena” (UAP) within 18 days in his last coronavirus relief bill in December. The Pentagon’s brief into “observed airborne objects that have not been identified” is expected to be released this June, and comes after videos were released by the US showing UFO’s around Navy warships.

Pentagon’s Inspector General Launches Probe Into Handling of UFO Encounters

• In April 2020, the US Department of Defense (DoD) ‘officially released’ three UFO videos captured by Navy aviators off of the US East and West Coasts, including the ‘Tic Tac’ UFO video from 2004, although they had been previously ‘unofficially’ released in December 2017. The DoD re-released the videos “in order to clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real, or whether or not there is more to the videos.”

• More recently, filmmaker Jeremy Corbell published “leaked” images of bizarre UFOs swarming US Navy destroyers off of Southern California in 2019. The DoD quickly ‘authenticated’ those images recorded by Navy personnel. Reporter George Knapp also recently published photos depicting a separate set of alleged UAP/UFO events that took place in recent years off the East Coast.

• Dod spokesperson Susan Gough said that the Navy UFO photos and videos were “provided to some web news outlets without following the proper procedures for authorized release of information.” Gough declined to comment on which outlets were “provided” with the information. Also, according to Chief of Naval Operations (CNO), Admiral Michael Gilday, the DoD has provided no details regarding the context of these confirmed UFO videos. The UFOs remain unidentified and the underlying facts surrounding these UAP/UFO incidents remain extremely limited. Gilday did note that “there have been other sightings by aviators in the air and by other ships not only of the United States, but other nations – and of course other elements within the U.S. joint force.”

• According to Gough, no formal investigation has been opened into the unauthorized release of the UFO photos and videos. The DoD has further declined to comment on the context of the videos, or the accuracy of media claims that these videos depict advanced craft.

• This repeated pattern of unaccountability has raised concerns that these airspace breaches arguably constitute a major intelligence failure. The confusing and often controversial nature of these UFO sightings may also contribute to a delayed or muted response by relevant governmental agencies.

• In an attempt to clear up some of this confusion, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence requested a public report on these strange UFO encounters, which is to be released in June. The committee’s request specifically acknowledged a lack of a “unified, comprehensive process within the Federal Government for collecting and analyzing intelligence on unidentified aerial phenomena, despite the potential threat.”

• On May 3, 2021, the apparent lack of seriousness surrounding this topic, as well as the lack of support in terms of Pentagon resources and expertise, prompted the DoD’s Inspector General to announce that it is opening an ‘evaluation’ into “the extent to which the DoD has taken actions regarding unidentified aerial phenomena”, i.e.: UFOs. The notice gives various organizations within the US military, including multiple entities in the US Intelligence Community, five days to designate a senior individual as a point of contact.

• The commands on the Inspector General’s list include the US Central Command, US Northern Command, and US Special Operations Command. However, the list does not include the US Indo-Pacific Command, which has seen unusual incidents involving unidentified aircraft in recent years.

• It is unclear whether the Department of Defense Inspector General’s evaluation will impact the timing of the release of the Senate Committee report. Hopefully, in the coming months the public will learn more facts about the UAP/UFO issue and the DoD’s response to it, or lack thereof. If new insights do not surface from the Senate report, they may well come from the DoD’s Inspector General’s report.

Space Force Chief Scientist Predicts AI-Augmented Human Soldiers

• During a recent online event at the Airforce Research Laboratory, the US Space Force’s chief scientist, Dr Joel Mozer, said that “human augmentation” is “imperative” in order for it to maintain military dominance. There will be “unimaginable” advances made over the next decade in areas including artificial intelligence, that would make the military able to strategize tactics that “no human could”, said Dr Mozer. “’Today, we’re on the brink of a new age: the age of human augmentation.”

• Future battle commanders will have multiple autonomous agents at their disposal, each able to control reconnaissance, fire control, or attack. “You could put [a soldier] into a ‘state of flow’, where learning is optimized and retention is maximized,” Dr Mozer said. “This individual could be shaped into somebody with very high-performing potential.” But ultimately, “autonomous” programs will advise commanders in real time.

• Human augmentation, meanwhile, will eventually develop into technologies including augmented and virtual reality, as well as “nerve stimulation” to better simulate physical sensations. Gene editing, physical and cognitive prosthesis and pharmaceutical enhancement could offer “profound expansion of the boundaries of human performance. [T]he application of these technologies and the integration of human and machine on the battlefield present opportunities to enhance military capability”.

• “Whilst it is envisaged that humans will continue to be central to the decision-making process, conflicts fought increasingly by robots or autonomous systems could change the very nature of warfare, as there will be less emphasis on emotions, passion and chance,” a 2018 UK Ministry of Defence report states. “The business of [drone] operators is to kill”, says philosopher and cultural critic Laurie Calhoun. Humans will serve merely as “ethical cover”, providing a moral framework for what is essentially a mechanical job.

• There is already a tight relationship between humans and machines in military conflicts. The concept of a “feedback loop” was developed during the Second World War. In the years since, “smart bombs” and drone strikes requiring human-machine interaction have become common. “In our business of national defense,” says Dr Mozer, “it’s imperative that we embrace this new age, lest we fall behind our strategic competitors.”

Actually, as with nearly everything else, the existing secret space programs operating from our planet and throughout our solar system are already doing it. Super soldiers are routinely issued ‘smart suits’ that perform every function, from enhanced strength and metabolism to protection and the ‘absorption and removal’ of bodily waste. Each soldiers’ vital functions are monitored from a central computer. SSP pilots actually pilot and navigate their smart ships through a neural-consciousness interface. It is true that this human enhancement technology is inevitable, at least at the military level, so the question is how far should it go before the soldier is more machine than human? What price will humanity pay by allowing unchecked, widespread transhumanism?

Elizondo Warns That Cover-Up of UFOs puts US at Risk

• In 2008, Luis Elizondo (pictured above) was a DIA intelligence officer assigned to Gitmo. Under a legislative mandate funded by former Nevada Senator and Majority Speaker, Harry Reid, Elizondo transferred to a Pentagon UFO research division known as the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP). He became the head of the program until that incarnation of the Pentagon’s ongoing study of UFO study was ended in 2012. In 2017, he left his Defense Department career due having to deal with the closed-minded non-believers who shunned his UFO research – an “intelligence failure on the level of 9/11”, says Elizondo. But he never stopped investigating UFOs and publicizing what he found, at least as far as his ongoing military non-disclosure agreement would allow.

• Now, with a bombshell government report on UFOs set to be released before the end of June, in the first of a series of articles in the New York Post Elizondo has revealed the reality of UFOs – vindicating believers of UFOs – the amazing things that they can do, and why decision-makers in the Pentagon don’t want this information made public.

• As part of his job as the head of the AATIP program, Elizondo had access to the Pentagon’s UFO data and he interviewed military eyewitnesses who encountered UAP on an almost “daily basis.” He spoke with Navy aviators who witnessed a 50-foot ‘TicTac’ UFO and a “sphere encasing a cube” that nearly collided with their jet. He studied data that showed the speed of a UFO at 14 miles per second, “making crazy right-angle turns” and being able to reverse “instantly”.

• Elizondo also revealed how some of these UFOs can achieve ‘transmedium travel’ both through the air and under water without compromising its level of performance. “When you see that, you recognize you are dealing with a technology more advanced than ours,” said Elizondo. ”Even the way in which these inexplicable flying machines manage to lift off blows away rational engineering. [These] things have no wings, no cockpits, no control surfaces, no rivets in the skin, no obvious signs of propulsion – and somehow they are able to defy the natural effects of Earth’s gravity,” Elizondo marveled. “How is that possible?”

• But Elizondo is less worried that these could be of extraterrestrial origin than he is that an Earthly adversary may have leap-frogged American technology while military bosses turned a blind eye to the UFO phenomena. This creates “a real problem from a national security perspective,” says Elizondo. “This isn’t a silly conversation. This is a conversation about someone, from somewhere, displaying beyond next-generation technology” that allows craft to fly “in our controlled airspace. And there’s not a whole lot we can do about it.”

• Elizondo pushed his superiors to take his findings seriously. But Defense Department superiors found the UFO topic ‘off-putting’ and blocked him from informing top generals. To some senior Pentagon officials, the very existence of UFOs was “too much of a pill to swallow”. One senior official “told him to ‘stop’” investigating UFOs”. He told Elizondo that UFOs “are demonic and we should not be pursuing them.’” Dr. Eric Davis, Ph.D., a former rocket scientist for the Air Force Research Laboratory and currently a scientist at government contractor the Aerospace Corporation, confirmed: “They objected to UFOs as being Satanic! …So they let a finite group of engineers and scientists and investigators work [on UFO research] together.” Their findings “just collect cobwebs in the classified storage warehouses.”

• Nick Pope, who briefly worked within the UFO office in Britain’s Ministry of Defence, saw similar incidents of religion-trumping-science in the UK. “Some…people in government…think the phenomenon is real – but demonic,” Pope said. “Their belief seems to be that studying UFOs would thus give energy to attention-seeking demons, which should be avoided. This view comes, in part, from the Biblical description of Satan as ‘the prince of the power of the air.’”

• Some of this institutional reluctance to reveal the UFO truth to the public may also stem from a fear of panicking the public. As Elizondo points out, many UFO sightings were near vulnerable nuclear facilities, ships in the water and power plants. “We had never seen anything like it,” Elizondo noted. When Elizondo was asked if he believed the US government is in possession of UFO craft, he responded, “Yes. I believe so. And that’s all I’m prepared to say.”

• As a result of this biased attitude, there appears to be a long-running campaign to discredit Elizondo and to keep his findings out of the limelight. “There are some people in the Pentagon that still don’t like me very much,” says Elizondo. “I think they’re pissed at me for the way I left. They’re…saying, ‘He had no assigned responsibilities with AATIP.’” Technically, it was the legislative branch that assigned him his UFO duties.

• “There are enough people now in the Pentagon and on the Hill who know exactly who I was and what I did.” Former Senator Reid remains a stanch defender of Elizondo. “Mr. Elizondo has spent his career working tirelessly in the shadows on sensitive national-security matters, including investigating UAPs as the head of AATIP,” Reid said. “He performed these duties admirably.”

• Though Elizondo, Pope and Davis are all pleased to see the June report coming out, none of them expect the government to reveal all. Elizondo figures it will be “an interim report … [laying out] all the unknowns”. Davis notes that UFOs “never went away. They’re still…causing aviation havoc, …getting in the middle of aviation operations, and that’s dangerous.” And Pope added, “If they know or suspect that UFOs are extraterrestrial, I hope they’ll say so.”

• When questioned whether UFOs could be vehicles from another galaxy, Elizondo offered a historic analogy. “Imagine the first person who decided to get on a boat and sail over the horizon. Back then there was talk of sea monsters and krakens that will destroy your boat. But [those sailors] did it anyway.” There really were sea monsters, as it turned out. “[W]e call them great squids of the Pacific, great white sharks and whales. They’re part of nature and we learned to understand them.” Now, faced with a similar scenario, “Maybe this is just another expedition over the horizon. Maybe we’re going to realize that what we thought were monsters (i.e.: extraterrestrials) are really just our neighbors.”

• “The level of interest (in UFOs) is reaching a critical mass,” says Elizondo. “Now that the government has acknowledged the reality of Unexplained Aerial Phenomenon… it’s going to be real hard to backtrack.”

Are UFO Craft Coming From Underwater Bases?

• Documentary filmmaker Jeremy Corbell claims that some of the mysterious UFOs captured in grainy images and shown swarming US Navy vessels could be coming from the Earth’s oceans. These types of craft that operate both in the air and underwater with equal ease have been dubbed “transmedium” vehicles.

• The videos and images of these UFO vehicles include the ‘Tic Tac’ UFO video-recorded by Navy aviators off of the coast of San Diego in November 2004; the ‘pyramid’ UFOs swarming the USS Russell off of the coast of Los Angeles in July 2019; and the ‘spherical’ and ‘acorn’ UFOs recorded hovering above the USS Omaha off of the coast of Virginia in March 2019. Referred to as the “Pentagon UFO videos”, the footage has been confirmed by the Pentagon as genuine and is said to have been leaked from a classified briefing led by the Pentagon into Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP).

• In September 2019, a Pentagon spokesperson confirmed that the videos were made by Navy aviators and were “part of a larger issue of an increased number of training range incursions by unidentified aerial phenomena in recent years.” The US Department of Defense formally released the Tic Tac UFO video in 2020.

• Interestingly, all of the leaked UFO videos confirmed as genuine by the Pentagon have occurred over the sea. The images of an object hovering above the USS Omaha was later seen “descending into the water” in the same month. The Tic Tac UFO was first seen hovering above an “ocean disturbance” resembling boiling water. It was reported that the Tic Tac UFOs were dropping almost instantly from an altitude of 80,000 feet to sea level where witnesses say there was a “cross shaped” object there under the water where the UFOs were “docking”.

• “[T]here was this implication that there might be a base or location like an embassy that they could go and maybe fuel up their starships…” speculated Corbell. “[I]t is possible that there’s a congregation or a station or a location underwater, where UFOs could be transiting from once they’re here, wherever they come from. That is a possibility that UFOs are transiting from a localized place underneath the water.”

US Military’s Need for Information Fueling Demand for Space Technology

• In a clear sign that the demand for space-based capabilities is growing across the U.S. military, the US Army has announced plans to explore new uses of satellites and other space technology in support of soldiers on the ground. All the military services are looking at ways to use space to their advantage, said General David Thompson, vice chief of space operations of the US Space Force.

• The Space Force, created in 2019, is responsible for defending US satellites that foreign adversaries could target in a future conflict. Space Force also supports the US military with technologies like GPS navigation, satellite-based communications, surveillance and early warning.

• “Some people are jumping to the conclusion that they [the Army] will build and fly their own satellites,” said General Thompson. But other possibilities are being considered as well. The Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps all want “the ability to get information from space” regardless of how it’s acquired. Thompson said that military leaders are discussing options for how new capabilities could be funded and brought to fruition. “There’s a whole host of ways that they can obtain the data they need from space to enable their tactical operations.”

• It remains to be seen if future budgets will support the Pentagon’s growing space systems wish lists. Funding for space capabilities has increased in recent. Across the military, the services have concluded that space systems give them the ability to capture information and share it quickly with forces around the world. All the services, the combatant commands and the Joint Staff are “in the process of identifying requirements that they need, that they expect the Space Force to be able to provide,” Thompson said.

• The budget request the Biden administration will submit for fiscal year 2022 is mostly wrapped up but “there’s a lot of work to do inside DoD and with the administration and with Congress,” Thompson said. “I think we’ll be in… the position we kind of sort of expected to be in. The challenge will be to see how it’s going to evolve in the future.” “We’re all on the same boat.”

Space Development Agency’s Orbital Mesh Network

• In 2019, the Space Development Agency (SDA) was charged with developing the National Defense Space Architecture for second generation US satellite communications in low earth orbit. “The whole idea is to be able to move data as rapidly as possible to get that tactical information directly to the war fighter,” said SDA Director Derek Tournear.

• The backbone of the architecture is the ‘transport layer’ – an orbital mesh network of hundreds of satellites connected through optical intersatellite links. The transport layer will be the glue that will connect the military services’ various combined networks allowing the DoD to rapidly move data through space directly to existing tactical data links on a weapons platform or on a weapon itself.

• SDA will use a ‘spiral development’ approach to build out the space architecture, putting up new satellites every two years. The first set of 28 satellites will begin launching in 2022. The next set of 150 satellites, to be launched in 2024, will be an operational system to provide a war fighter immersion capability. “That’s our initial war fighting capability,” said Tournear. “[W]e want those (communications) crosslinks to not only be satellite to satellite, but satellite to air, satellite to ground, and satellite to air and maritime assets…”

• The agency is working with several companies to ensure their satellites can connect to the transport layer via optical intersatellite links. Those commercial satellites will form the custody layer, an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capability that will provide overhead satellite imagery for tactical targeting. The agency is also talking with commercial services that could provide high bandwidth data backhaul in case the architecture was disabled.

• On April 16th, SDA issued a request for information seeking industry feedback on an optical communication standard. The third set of satellites will “fold in the lessons learned … any new technology that’s been developed, and any new threats that have come online,” said Tournear. He expects Space Force systems to connect to the transport layer via optical intersatellite links, and commercial capabilities are expected to tie in even sooner. Responses to the optical communications RFI are due by April 30th, and the transport layer satellites are expected to be ordered this summer.

Established in 2019, the agency was charged with developing the National Defense Space Architecture, a proliferated constellation to eventually be made up of hundreds of satellites mostly operating in low Earth orbit. The backbone of the architecture is the transport layer, a mesh network on orbit connected through optical intersatellite links. The transport layer will allow the DoD to rapidly move data through space, and will be the glue that will connect the services’ various Combined Joint All Domain Command and Control networks.

“The whole idea is to be able to move data as rapidly as possible to get that tactical information directly to the war fighter,” said SDA Director Derek Tournear at the annual C4ISRNET Conference. “So what the transport layer consists of are hundreds of satellites that form a resilient optically interconnected mesh network that will pass data directly to existing tactical data links. So what that means to the war fighter is the following: I can now move data from a targeting cell that could be located CONUS or ideally that targeting cell will actually form a target onboard on the satellites and I can send that data down directly to an existing tactical data link on a weapons platform or on a weapon itself.”

SDA is using a spiral development approach to build out the NDSA, putting up new tranches of satellites every two years. The first set of 28 satellites — tranche 0 — will begin launching in 2022 and provide a war fighter immersion capability. Tranche 1 will have closer to 150 satellites and will be an operational system.

Military Scientist to Build ‘Space-Time Modification Weapon’

Scientist Dr. Salvatore Pais (pictured above) claims that he is able to create artificially generated high energy electromagnetic fields that can manipulate the “quantum vacuum” which underlies the entire universe. Pais says that these discoveries will overturn the laws of physics as we currently understand them.

• While science writers such as Brett Tingley argues that the so-called Pais Effect “has no scientific basis in reality” and that the patents related to it are “filled with pseudo-scientific jargon”, the US Department of Defense has given Pais $500,000 to develop his ‘Space-Time Modification Weapon’.

• The ‘Pais effect’ is the electromagnetic “force field” that surrounds a craft that allows it incredible acceleration through air or water, and “capable of extreme underwater speeds” with virtually no resistance. The resulting new kind of aircraft, known as a HUAC, would be – according to Pais – able to “engineer the fabric of our reality at the most fundamental level”. “The HAUC is conical (like the point of a pencil) in configuration with an elliptical cross-section, similar in geometry to a hypersonic glide vehicle [or] dart,” notes Pais in a recent publication. The HUAC craft would operate as both an aircraft and a submarine, encasing its crew in a Faraday Cage to shield them from the intense electromagnetic forces.

• Pais has filed several patents, with titles such as “Craft Using an Inertial Mass Reduction Device,” “Piezoelectricity-induced High-Temperature Superconductor,” “High-Frequency Gravitational Wave Generator,” and “Ultrahigh Intensity Electromagnetic Field Generator”. At least one of his patents was initially rejected by the US Patent Office in 2018 because it did not seem to be scientifically plausible, but then was later resubmitted with further documentation that appeared to prove Pais’s wild claims.

• US Department of Defense (DoD) emails reveal that there was at least one experimental demonstration of the technology. The schematics Pais drew up for his experimental craft look suspiciously like the “Black Triangles” sometimes spotted gliding silently over the southwestern United States. The US National Institute for Discovery Science cataloged sightings of so-called “Black Triangle” UFOs dating back to the 1990s, and concluded that the behavior of the mysterious aerial objects “does not appear consistent with the covert deployment of an advanced DoD aircraft”.

• According to The Drive, the US military is investing in these technologies because of concerns that China has already developed ultra-advanced aircraft of the type that reportedly “buzzed” the USS Nimitz in 2004 (ie: The ‘Tic Tac’ UFO). The Drive’s Brett Tingley and Tyler Rogoway wrote: “The Chief Technical Officer of the Naval Aviation Enterprise personally wrote a letter addressed to the examiner claiming that the U.S. needs the patent as the Chinese are already ‘investing significantly’ in these aerospace technologies.”

While the concept might seem like something dreamed up by tinfoil-hatted conspiracy theorists, the US military has a long history of dabbling in research that sounds like science fiction.

This new initiative is based on the work of controversial scientist Dr Salvatore Pais.

Pais claims that artificially generated high energy electromagnetic fields can manipulate the “quantum vacuum” that underlies the entire Universe.

If Pais is correct, a craft surrounded by an electromagnetic “force field” of this kind could move through air – or water – with virtually no resistance.

This would allow incredible acceleration and produce a new kind of aircraft that – according to the enigmatic Dr Pais – would be able to “engineer the fabric of our reality at the most fundamental level”.

But not everyone agrees with him.

But it’s pseudo-scientific jargon that has convinced at least some US defence chiefs. Pais has been handed over $500,000 (£365k) to research the bizarre concept.

China’s Space War With the US

• Any conflict between the United States and China would likely begin at sea and in the skies over the Indo-Pacific region. Last month, US Navy Admiral John Aquilino testified before Congress that American forces deployed to the Indo-Pacific are overmatched by their Chinese rivals.

• US military forces and their allies would require unhampered access to satellites in order to defend against Chinese aggression. Nearly 70% of the US Army’s weapons rely on satellites to function. American warships would need to coordinate and communicate with one another and their combatant commands across the Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) satellite constellation in geosynchronous orbit, and across the Wideband Global Satcom (WGS) constellation.

• The ubiquitous Global Positioning System (GPS) constellation of satellites is essential for the movement and deployment of US forces, especially in a large area of operation like the Indo-Pacific. Even America’s vaunted nuclear command, control and communications (NC3) satellites could be destroyed in geosynchronous orbit, nullifying America’s nuclear deterrent.

• Denying the Americans access to these vital satellite constellations would be key for any plan by Beijing to invade Taiwan or to capture the South or East China Sea. A “Space Pearl Harbor” would temporarily blind and confuse US forces to create a window of opportunity for China’s ‘People’s Liberation Army’ (PLA) to defeat a confused American military.

• The US military would also attack China’s satellite constellations. But Beijing’s forces are nowhere near as dependent on satellites as are America’s military forces. Also, American forces would wait to be attacked in space before responding in-kind. This gives Beijing the advantage by allowing the PLA escalation dominance in a space war – which would translate to China’s advantage on land, at sea, in the air, and within cyberspace, at least for a short time. Western dithering in the face of Chinese aggression would lead to their defeat.

• China’s leadership knows it does not need to defeat the United States and its allies in a war, they simply need to delay US military power from intervening against their forces long enough for China’s military to achieve their strategic objectives, say, capturing Taiwan. Once captured, China’s leaders believe that their American rivals would be unwilling to commit the resources needed to restore the status quo. China’s leaders would use their crippling defeat of US military forces in the Indo-Pacific as the leverage they’d need to seek a negotiated settlement with Washington to create a new regional paradigm wherein China, not the United States, is the dominant player.

• To deter China from enacting a Space Pearl Harbor, the Biden administration must demand a larger budget for the fledgling Space Force and insist upon a doctrine of satellite defense coupled with total space dominance. It is easier to preserve America’s satellite capabilities in peacetime than it is to try to restore them in war.

• If the United States continues to leave itself vulnerable to attack in the strategic high ground of space, an aggressive and innovative foe like China could exploit such weaknesses in a moment of geopolitical crisis and put another nail in the coffin of America’s superpower status. A China-dominated world order is a development that few outside of Beijing desire.

Navy Admiral is Clueless About the UFOs That Menaced US Destroyers Off California Coast in 2019

• Last month, The Drive website revealed that US Navy warships stationed off the coast of Los Angeles had encountered swarms of mysterious drones, which pursued them at high speed in low visibility. Ship logbooks, internal emails and eyewitness descriptions establish that the UAVs (unidentified aerial vehicles) had a far greater aeronautical capability than any previously known drones. • Admiral Michael Gilday (pictured above), the Chief of US Naval Operations, led an investigation into the July 2019 incident. Speaking to the Defense Writers Group in Washington, Gilday told them “I am aware of those sightings, and as it’s been reported, there have been other sightings by aviators in the air and by other ships not only of the United States, but other nations — and of course other elements within the US joint force… Those findings have been collected and they still are being analyzed.”

• Gilday’s statements appear to rule out the theory that the drones could have come from a secret US military program. This has led to growing speculation that they were either built by a rival military power or ‘something else beyond our understanding is going on’. Scores of reports of similar sightings date back to the 1960s and remain classified. Lawmakers have been calling for the Pentagon to open up its classified records about the encounters, citing national security concerns.

• The 2019 LA sighting has parallels to previous UFO encounters, in particular an infamous 2004 incident when six Super Hornet pilots made visual or instrument contact with a mystery ‘Tic Tac’ UFO in November 2004. The Navy has now classified the 2019 LA ‘drones’ investigation, preventing further information from being released.

• Gadi Schwartz, an expert on UFO encounters, told NBC News that the Navy’s response only added to the intrigue surrounding the sightings. “There’s either another nation or possibly a secret program that has made some technological breakthroughs that would change the way we understand physics, or something else beyond our understanding is going on.”

• On March 25th, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was briefed on the state of the DoD’s space systems and national security challenges in space. John Hill, the assistant secretary in charge of the defense for space affairs, headed Austin’s meeting attended by officials from Space Force, the US Space Command, and the National Reconnaissance Office, some in person and others via video teleconference.

• The briefing was meant to get Austin up to speed on space projects, the framework of the national defense space industry, and obstacles the US is facing in the space domain. China’s technical developments and space aspirations were also discussed. Biden has made technical rivalry with China a focal point for expenditure and policy decisions. Earlier in March, Austin assembled a “China Task Force” of senior government officials to offer suggestions about coping with China’s aspirations.

• “Serious and increasing risks to United States national security interests” are raised by Chinese and Russian space operations, according to Austin. In written confirmation hearings to the Senate Armed Services Committee, Austin said that the “strategic climate continues to change rapidly, particularly as it relates to space.” As defense secretary, he would embrace a national defense policy that addresses the “continued development of adversary space as well as counter space capacities.”

• US allies Japan and South Korea are increasingly anxious about China’s broad maritime assertions, technical advancements in space and other fields. In an address last month, Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that the United States should “engage all nations, like China and Russia, in establishing principles and norms of responsible conduct in outer space.”

• US military commanders in the Indo-Pacific area are worried about China’s potential to interrupt GPS and other vital communications satellites. They have called for increased investments in advanced space systems technology. Austin will have to weigh combatant commanders’ demands for more money amid economic constraints and proposals to cut military budgets as he prepares to make his first budget proposal to Congress.

Mystery UFO’s Off of Virginia Remain Unidentified

• Military and intelligence officials remain baffled by unidentified aircraft that have been encountered in recent years off both coasts of the United States. Investigators with the Pentagon’s UAP Task Force have requested that military airmen try to document their encounters. On March 4th, 2019, one of them did. (see image above)

• Since at least 2014, Navy F-18 jet pilots out of Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach have reported encounters with a bizarre array of UFOs positioned directly in their daily flight paths over the Atlantic Ocean off of Virginia. On March 4th, 2019, an F-18 weapons systems officer (WSO) seated behind the pilot used his iPhone to capture images of three different objects they encountered in flight. One object was dubbed the ‘sphere’, another the ‘acorn’. A third object encountered on the same day was described as a ‘metallic blimp’.

• A previous photo of the ‘acorn’ UFO was published online in December 2020, and was said to resemble a toy Batman balloon. But after two years careful study by the UAP Task Force, the objects remain unidentified. The Task Force reports noted that the objects were able to remain stationary in high winds, with no movement, beyond the capability of known balloons or drones. Now, more photos of these strange UFOs have been released to the public.

• Mystery Wire learned of the still unreleased photos two years ago during a private briefing hosted by Robert Bigelow in Las Vegas on April 6, 2019. Speculation at the time was that the objects might be foreign spy drones, possibly Chinese. Mystery Wire’s George Knapp learned the Navy wanted to capture one for study, but that never happened.

• Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Michael Gilday maintains that the swarms of pyramid-shaped drones that buzzed Navy warships in July 2019 off of Los Angeles still defies explanation. (see previous ExoArticle here)  Last month, former National Intelligence Director John Ratcliffe told Fox News that he was briefed on the mystery drones. “We are talking about objects that have been seen by Navy or Air Force pilots,” said Ratcliffe. “Movements that are hard to replicate that we don’t have the technology for, or traveling at speeds that exceed the sound barrier without a sonic boom.”

• The pyramid drone swarms that buzzed Navy destroyers in 2019 appeared in the same general area as the 2004 Tic Tac UFO, which was pursued by former Navy Commander Dave Fravor. Unlike previous decades, when the UFO topic was ignored or covered-up by the government, Fravor thinks there are reasons for the Pentagon’s new interest. “I look at it for two reasons,” said Fravor. “One, if there’s a capability, we can’t explain it. Number two, if you can explain it, then you can literally change everything that we do.”

Naval Air Station Oceana is the center of airpower on the east coast of the United States. It is a sprawling naval air station in Virginia, home to the best aviators in the world.

Since at least 2014, F-18 pilots flying into the zone designated W-72 have reported encounters with a bizarre array of unknown, unidentified objects and aircraft, positioned directly in their daily flight paths.

On March 4th, 2019, one of them did.

An F-18 weapons systems officer (WSO) seated behind the pilot used his iPhone to capture images of three different objects he encountered in the same airspace.

At 3:02 p.m. he photographed an odd shaped object. Another photo, taken close to the same time, was first posted to twitter on May 11, 2020, then again on social media 6 months later.

Other photos taken on the same day; March 4th, 2019 have never been made public until now.

The object the Navy calls the “Sphere” was photographed at 2:44 p.m.

The second one to be photographed was dubbed the “Acorn.” A similar, but different photograph of this same object was published online in December 2020.

Then, 12 minutes later, the WSO spotted a third object, described as the “Metallic Blimp.” It appears to have various appendages.

US & Russia Discuss How to Avoid Tensions in Space

• Despite the fact that the two nations’ civilian space programs work closely together on the International Space Station, the US and Russia have had multiple skirmishes in space. In February 2020, Chief of Space Operations General Jay Raymond announced that a pair of Russian satellites was following a US space satellite too closely in orbit. In July, Raymond condemned a Russian weapons test designed to blow up assets in orbit.

• Space Force leaders have emphasized the importance of drafting international norms of behavior in space to ensure all nations can operate safely. Space Force’s Maj. Gen. DeAnna Burt said that officials from the Pentagon and State Department are drafting language to send to the U.N. on responsible space behavior.

• On March 23rd, at Washington’s request, representatives from the US and Russia held an online video meeting to discuss responsible behaviors in space. It is unclear, however, who from the US participated in the discussion with Russia. A senior Biden administration official said, “It is a shared interest of all nations to act responsibly in space to ensure the safety, stability, security, and long-term sustainability of outer space activities.”

• The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement saying that the video meeting covered “a wide range of issues related to the security of space activities.” Both Russia and the US say they want to hold future meetings to make progress on the topic. “We look forward to future discussions to build mutual trust with Russia and other space-faring nations to work toward responsible norms of behaviors in space,” the unnamed senior administration official said.

In March 2018, Donald Trump broached the creation of a ‘Space Force’, and in August 2018 the US’s 2019 National Defense Authorization Act repeatedly referenced “space warfighting operations” and plans to create a “unified command for space” under US Strategic Command.

• Now the UK wants to get in on the action. On March 22, the UK government published its ‘Defence Command Paper 2021’, outlining London’s grand vision for its “role in the world over the next decade” in respect of military and intelligence capabilities and operations. “Space, and our assured access to it, is fundamental to military operations,” the paper reads. “We must develop military, civilian and commercial capabilities that are resilient to and protected from space threats. We must also help shape an international environment of behaviours and operating norms that deters adversaries.”

• By 2030, the UK intends to have “the ability to monitor, protect and defend” its interests “in and through space”. Over the next 10 years, a total of £5 billion will be invested in Skynet, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) network of military communications satellites, which supports the Five Eyes global spying apparatus. £1.4 billion will be spent establishing a dedicated space command, launch a National Space Operations Centre, develop an “intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance satellite constellation”, and create a “Space Academy” to train Britain’s new army of “space specialists”.

• In May 2020, then-MoD Permanent Secretary Sir Stephen Lovegrove told a parliamentary committee that space was “now recognized as a warfighting domain.” The Defence Command Paper states that UK military and intelligence capabilities will from now on be fully integrated across “space, cyberspace, maritime, land and air”. By August of 2020, Royal Air Force officers began training at the US Space Command’s Space Defense Operations Center in California.

• Defence Secretary Ben Wallace consistently frames UK space-combat capacity as inherently defensive in nature. But in April 2019, a mysterious aircraft crash-landed in the West Australian outback. It was revealed to be a state-of-the-art experimental solar-powered surveillance drone, produced by aerospace firm Airbus for the MoD. The craft has a 25m wingspan and is capable of flying unmanned at a height of over 65,000 feet – twice the altitude of a commercial airliner, at the very edge of space.

• China and Russia have repeatedly presented draft treaties to the United Nations calling for a ban on the deployment of conventional weapons in space, and a prohibition on the use of force in and from space and against spacecraft. Despite being supported by an overwhelming number of UN member states, the proposals were consistently rebuffed by Washington.

• The UK’s updated defense priorities are Britain’s own contribution to this determined push to transform space into a dangerous battleground. By Ben Wallace’s own admission, there is “limited international agreement on norms and conventions” relating to the regulation of space technology, combined with “a lack of ethical standards to encourage their responsible use”. A cynic might suggest that, in fact, Whitehall intends to exploit these regulatory and moral shortfalls to its own advantage.

developments have done much to make the prospect an ever more likely reality – and it’s clear the UK wants to get in on the action.

On March 22, the UK government published its Defence Command Paper 2021, a 76-page document offering further clarity on the previous week’s Integrated Review, which outlined London’s grand vision for its “role in the world over the next decade” in respect of military and intelligence capabilities and operations.

An accompanying foreword authored by Defence Secretary Ben Wallace – former British Army soldier and director of military technology firm QinetiQ, who has previously condoned torture – spells out the paper’s disturbing dimensions in some detail.

Strikingly, it contained dozens of references to space in a military context. The heavens were said to be of growing significance as an operational and “warfighting” domain – a dedicated section describing Whitehall’s plans to secure dominance in the sphere.

“Space, and our assured access to it, is fundamental to military operations. Loss of, or disruption to, the space domain could severely impact our ability to undertake most defence tasks,” it read. “We must develop military, civilian and commercial capabilities that are resilient to and protected from space threats. We must also help shape an international environment of behaviours and operating norms that deters adversaries.”

US Navy Destroyers Swarmed by Mysterious ‘Drones’ Off California in 2019

• On July 14, 2019, a group of US Navy ships were conducting exercises about 100 miles off Los Angeles, near San Clemente island, and south of the Channel Islands off of Ventura/Santa Barbara. Around 10:00 pm, the US Navy destroyer, the USS Kidd logged the sighting of two “UAVs” or ‘unmanned aerial vehicles’, more commonly referred to as a ‘drones’. In addition to utilizing some of the most sophisticated sensors on Earth, a “SNOOPIE team” – or ‘Ship Nautical Or Otherwise Photographic Interpretation and Exploitation’ team, ie: a group of sailors with consumer-grade cameras – was deployed to track and record the UAV drones.

• Ten minutes after the initial sighting, the USS Kidd advised the USS Rafael Peralta of the situation, and the second destroyer activated its own SNOOPIE team. Reports of additional sightings were coming in from a third destroyer, the USS John Finn. The USS Rafael Peralta described a ‘white light’ hovering over the destroyer’s helicopter landing pad, matching the ship’s speed at 16 knots (about 18 mph) as it operated in low visibility weather conditions and at night. This continued for over 90 minutes—significantly longer than what commercially available drones can sustain.

• As this was going on, the civilian bulk carrier Bass Strait was situated towards the northern edge of the encounter area. A Liberian-flagged oil tanker, the Sigma Triumph, was just south of the position of the three destroyers. And the 50-foot catamaran, the ORV Alguita, was just off the western tip of San Clemente Island.

• On the following night, July 15th, 2019, the USS Rafael Peralta spotted the drones again at 8:39 pm. By 9:00 pm, the USS Kidd also spotted the drones. This time, the ships were located further south and closer to shore, between San Diego and San Clemente Island. The drones seem to pursue the ships as they maneuvered. By 9:20 pm, the USS Kidd log reads: “Multiple UAVs around ship”.

• At 9:37 pm, the command was issued to man Mark 87 stations – the Mk20 Electro-Optical Sighting System (EOSS) located above the bridge, which provides surveillance and tracking over long distances. At about the same time, logs from the Navy destroyer USS Russell describe the drones dropping in elevation, and apparently moving forward and backward, left and right.

• Meanwhile, the USS Rafael Peralta received a radio call from a passing cruise ship, the Carnival Imagination, notifying the Navy that the drones were not theirs, but they could see as many as five or six drones maneuvering nearby. The incident continued into the night, with the USS Rafael Peralta recording two drones, and then four drones near their own ship. This continued for nearly three hours, but none of the warships were able to identify the drones.

• A formal investigation appears to have been launched on July 17th. By the morning of July 18th, a Navy liaison to the Coast Guard and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) assigned to 3rd Fleet got involved. Their findings would go directly to the commander of the Pacific Fleet and to the Chief of Naval Operations. The initial focus of their investigation was the 50-foot catamaran, the ORV Alguita. While the ORV Alguita did have drones onboard, they were small quadcopter drones with a maximum flight time of 28 minutes and incapable of operating more than a few feet from the ship. Also, they were not operating at the time of the incident. Navy investigators conceded that they needed to keep looking.

• Next, Navy intelligence and the director of the Maritime Intelligence Operations Center sought to rule out the possibility that the drones were operated by the Navy itself. A representative from the Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility based in San Diego clarified that UAV drones were only operated by the Navy in certain limited areas. By the afternoon of July 23rd, the investigators were still grappling with the intent behind the incidents.

• Remarkably, the USS Kidd detected the drones again in the early hours of July 25th and July 30th. Further information continues to emerge from The Drive’s FOIA requests, but based on the available evidence it appears that the initial investigation did not ultimately identify the source of the drones. It remains uncertain if other ships also continued to have drone encounters in July.

• It is unclear why anyone would operate drones near Navy warships in such a brazen manner. Commercially available drones are not usually capable of flying for such long durations across great distances at relatively high speeds. It is estimated that the drones traversed at least 100 nautical miles during the July 14th incident. The drones were able to locate and catch a destroyer traveling at 16 knots in conditions with less than one nautical mile of visibility. Equally baffling, their operators appear to have coordinated at least five to six drones simultaneously.

• Is it possible that the drones were operated from the Navy’s nearby training area on San Clemente Island in an errant test of some kind? No UAV activity was scheduled during July 14th. If there were classified drone exercises, why would the incursions continue after an investigation that reached the highest level of the Navy hierarchy? This is the same area where the ‘Tic Tac’ UFO (and the ‘fleet’ of them according to a Navy pilot’s remark) was seen in 2004.

• If the drones were not operated by the American military, these incidents represent a highly significant security breach. If they were part of some kind of covert action, it is nonetheless unclear why they were flown so openly and so frequently in almost a harassing manner. More troubling still, if a foreign state actor was involved, where exactly were the drones launched from? And was there ever a hard description of these craft beyond ‘lights in the sky’?

In July of 2019, a truly bizarre series of events unfolded around California’s Channel Islands. Over a number of days, groups of unidentified aircraft, which the U.S. Navy simply refers to as ‘drones’ or ‘UAVs,’ pursued that service’s vessels, prompting a high-level investigation.

During the evening encounters, as many as six aircraft were reported swarming around the ships at once. The drones were described as flying for prolonged periods in low-visibility conditions, and performing brazen maneuvers over the Navy warships near a sensitive military

training range less than 100 miles off Los Angeles. The ensuing investigation included elements of the Navy, Coast Guard, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The incidents received major attention, including from the Chief of Naval Operations—the apex of the Navy’s chain of command.

The following is our own investigation into these events, during which we discovered these events were far more extensive in scale than previously understood.

A Strange Story Emerges

Last year, documentary filmmaker Dave Beaty uncovered initial details about the events, centering on the Arleigh Burke class destroyer USS Kidd (DDG-100). That initial account described a tense encounter, culminating in the deployment of onboard intelligence teams.

New documents significantly expand the public’s knowledge of the scope and severity of that incident and reveal others that occurred around the same time. These details come largely from our Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, which resulted in the disclosure of deck logs from the ships involved. Additionally, our investigation utilized hundreds of gigabytes of automatic identification system (AIS) ship location data to forensically reconstruct the position of both military and civilian ships in the area during this strange series of events.

By using the USS Kidd’s position as a starting point, we were able to identify several other ships in close proximity to it during the incidents in question, including U.S. Navy destroyers USS Rafael Peralta, USS Russell, USS John Finn, and the USS Paul Hamilton. Subsequent FOIA requests for these ships’ records allowed us to build a composite picture of the events as a whole.

Government Will Have to Share Info on UFOs

• As there has been “thousands” of reports of UFO/alien-related occurrences in the US military, and military pilots who “were afraid to report these strange things happening—for fear it would affect their advancement in the officer corps”, former Senator Harry Reid helped secure funding for UFO-studying efforts in the Pentagon. “The one thing that we established is that not a dozen people have seen these occurrences. Not 100 of them,” noted the former senator. “Thousands of people have seen them.”

• In August 2020, the Pentagon re-established a task force dedicated to investigating UFO sightings and alien-related incidents. It is unclear what the ‘Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force’ will be doing, but the Pentagon will soon have to provide members of Congress with what is currently known about the existence of UFOs and aliens.

• Whether UFO sightings are of an extraterrestrial origin or will be found to come from an Earth-bound adversary, people expect the task force to use sophisticated technology to find the truth. “Space travel is difficult—for many reasons,” says Dr. Joseph Pesce, an astrophysicist with the National Science Foundation’s division of astronomical sciences. “I’m not arrogant enough to think that we know everything about nature and the universe, and the laws of nature.” Dr. Pesce does not rule out the possibility of out-of-this-world ‘tools’ to be used to “understand the universe around us and our part in it.”

There have been “thousands” of reports of alien-related occurrences in the military, according to former Senator Harry Reid, who helped secure funding for UFO-studying efforts during his time at Congress, Nextgov reported.

“In the past, pilots were afraid to report these strange things happening—for fear it would affect their advancement in the officer corps”, Reid told Nextgov in one of the episodes of the podcast ‘Critical Update’.

He also noted that many people he randomly encounters at work often ask him about UFOs, and the report outlined that the government will soon have to provide members of Congress with what is currently known about allegations of the existence of aliens.

Space Force’s Operational Anti-Satellite Weapon

• In May 2020, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper said Space Force was necessary because “our adversaries in the last several years have weaponized space. They’ve made it a warfighting domain.” It has been assumed that Space Force is unique among US military branches in that it has no overt space weapons. But creating a branch of the military for the explicit purpose of war in space suggests that the US is planning for more in space than it is disclosing.

• Military technologist Kelsey Atherton pointed out in Slate online magazine, however, that Space Force does in fact have one publicly disclosed space weapon: the “Counter Communications System Block 10.2. or ‘the jammer’ (pictured above). The jammer is a device on Earth that is able to jam satellite data communications in low earth orbit. (see article here). Space Force describes it as: “a transportable space electronic warfare system that reversibly denies adversary satellite communications”. Becoming operational on March 9, 2020, the jammer is a way to exert hostile control over other objects in orbit, both civilian and military, without blowing them up (and creating space debris). The US military considers the jammer a space weapon.

• In the ‘traffic cop’ version of the Space Force, it is less a military branch fighting wars than a military branch that sees itself as enforcing the day-to-day law in space orbit – whether they be satellites owned by countries or companies. The Space Force intends to exercise dominion over both. Space Force doesn’t even need to do anything with the jammer device. Its mere existence is an act of aggressive defense, which infers that a course is set for extending terrestrial conflicts into space. And there’s no turning back from that.

I’ve been following the work of military technologist Kelsey Atherton for years, and I’ve always enjoyed his insights into the most fascinating and horrifying aspects of the defense industry. In a recent article for Slate’s Future Tense section, Atherton explored the theoretical future of Space Force, and how the Biden administration could potential handle the Trump administration’s curious sci-fi vanity project. He then expounded upon the topic in his newsletter.

Initially, Atherton had written in Slate: The Space Force is unique among military branches in that it has no (publicly acknowledged) weapons. Nevertheless, creating a new branch of the military for the explicit purpose of war in space suggests to other countries that the United States is planning for more in orbit than it is disclosing. Treating satellites like forts and orbits like territory risks war and, ultimately, the destruction of orbit as a useful space.

Space Force Weighing Options to Space Attacks

• During a National Press Club event on March 3rd, Chief of Space Operations General John W. “Jay” Raymond said that U.S. officials are trying to hash out the ground rules for space combat. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer for what could be considered an act of war or a ‘proportional response’. “I think it depends on the strategic context that’s going on in the world,” said Raymond.

• There’s no such thing as a “space war,” Raymond said. “It’s just war. How nations might choose to conduct operations in that war, that conflict, either on the sea, or in the air, or on the ground, or now in space, … is just integrated into that larger strategic conflict.”

• “You can’t put weapons of mass destruction in orbit, and you can’t militarize a planet, a celestial body. Other than that, there’s no rules,” Raymond said. That ambiguity may complicate global discussions of norms of behavior in outer space. Space Force is trying to drive that conversation to constrain bad behavior and shape a common understanding of what’s acceptable on orbit. “I’m not naive to think, if there was a set of norms of behavior, that everybody’s going to follow them,” said Raymond.

• “The challenge for space strategists is to anticipate how this gradual shift from… information operations to physical operations will proceed,” a recent report on space defense from the Center for Strategic and International Security (CSIS) pointed out. “Further analysis and gaming are needed to explore… when it is advantageous (or not) to do nothing in response to an attack or threat of attack.”

• Though Space Force is quick to note various technologies in development by China, Russia and others that could look to damage U.S. assets, Raymond declined to talk about what offensive and defensive capabilities his service has in the works. The CSIS report recommended that Space Force own “non-kinetic active defenses, such as onboard jamming and lasing systems, … to thwart kinetic attacks against high-value satellites.”

• “A physical seizure capability should also be explored,” the report added, “that could double as a (non-aggressive) inspector and on-orbit servicing satellite,” such as the Russian spacecraft which Moscow said was an inspector satellite and test-fired an anti-satellite weapon in space last year.

• Raymond noted that Space Force will debut its plan for streamlining the Pentagon’s space acquisition agencies in “another week or so,” and that he expects to see a Space Force dress uniform prototype in about a month. Officials will finalize which parts of the Army and Navy departments will transfer to the Space Force in the next couple of months.

• Despite less discussion on the subject from the Biden White House, the federal government’s renewed emphasis on space superiority and exploration hasn’t waned, Raymond said. “This is not a political issue,” he stressed. “This is about our national security and the foundation of all instruments of national power, and I look forward to continuing our efforts to build this service.”

International Effort to Set Rules of Behavior in Space

• The commander of the US Space Command, Major General DeAnna Burt (pictured above) says that international momentum is building for the adoption of a binding set of rules to make space safer and sustainable. A December 2020 UN resolution proposed by the UK will focus on a set of rules curtailing irresponsible or potentially threatening activities in space, and on reducing the risks of misunderstandings and miscalculations. The United States and allies including Canada, France, Germany Australia and New Zealand are now drafting language for the rules and the US Space Command is taking a central role. The UN has asked countries to submit input by May 3rd.

• This effort comes amid growing alarm about Russia’s anti-satellite weapon tests and concerns that the proliferation of satellites and debris is rapidly cluttering Earth orbit. US Space Command has grown especially mistrustful of Russia following recent tests of weapons that could be used to target satellites in low Earth orbit. In 2020 Russia tested two direct-ascent weapons. It also tested a co-orbital system that the United States claims was aimed at a US intelligence satellite.

• The 1967 Outer Space Treaty remains the basis for international space law but experts say the treaty has become outdated. For example, it bans the use of weapons of mass destruction in space but countries now deploy dual-use spacecraft that can be used for peaceful and military purposes.

• For decades there have been calls for the UN and other organizations to figure out a way to deter these types of activities and move forward as more nations engage in space operations. “[W]e want to see something that is binding. …The problem with previous UN resolutions is that they were non-binding”, said Burt. “We’re going to prepare what we believe will be proposal language that will go to the UN and hopefully result in a binding resolution,” she said. “[I]t’s going to be something we can all agree to.”

• It’s not just the U.S. and allied governments that care about this, said Burt. Private satellite owners and operators from many nations “have a vested interest in keeping the domain safe, sustainable and free for all to use,” says Burt. “There’s been a lot of (global) exploration over hundreds of years and we’ve established norms that become laws about the rules of the sea” under a long-standing maritime domain model. “How we operate in the space domain needs very similar kinds of customs and processes.” Any agreement has to clearly define what constitutes threatening, hostile or irresponsible behavior, Burt said. Based on that, a nation could decide if a particular action in space constitutes an act of war or if it can be handled through diplomatic or economic sanctions.

• Over the past decade, China and Russia have floated treaty proposals to ban weapons in space, but the United States has rejected them as unacceptable. The U.S. is not calling for a ban on specific weapons, Burt said. “The Chinese and the Russians have already put weapons in space. So I think we’re way past having a conversation about regulating them per se, which is why we focus on norms of behavior.” With regard to anti-satellite weapons, “I don’t think you can you can put that genie back in the bottle.”

• With more nations now involved in space, there are concerns beyond the use of weapons, such as safety of flight so that satellites do not collide with each other, said Burt, who spent 28 years in the U.S. Air Force operating satellites. Safety concerns will only grow as more humans start going to space, she added. Any international agreement also should hold accountable actors who create long-term debris. “That is something that we see is one of the biggest concerns,” she said. “We need to define what is long-term debris but a clear example is China’s 2007 anti-satellite test. We are still tracking debris from 2007.”

• Awareness of what other countries are doing will help attribute actions, said Burt. In instances when someone threatens a U.S. satellite, ideally “we want to show a picture … and share that on the national news” the same way the Air Force shows videos of aerial bombing campaigns. Most U.S. intelligence about the space domain is classified, however. Burt said U.S. Space Command leaders are working with the intelligence community to “declassify things we need to talk about to the American people.”

 

WASHINGTON — The United States and allies are drafting language in support of an international effort to adopt rules of behavior in space, U.S. Space Command’s Maj. Gen. DeAnna Burt told SpaceNews.

Burt is the commander of U.S. Space Command’s combined force space component at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. She said international momentum is building for the adoption of a binding set of rules to make space safer and sustainable.

U.S. Space Command is taking a central role in this effort amid growing alarm about Russia’s anti-satellite weapon tests and concerns that the proliferation of satellites and debris is rapidly cluttering Earth orbit.

Burt said a team of Defense and State Department officials is drafting language on the U.S. position on a resolution approved in December by the United Nations General Assembly which calls for “norms, rules and principles of responsible behaviors” in space. The UN has asked countries to submit input by May 3 for inclusion in a report to be reviewed by the UN General Assembly this summer.

The problem with previous UN resolutions is that they were non binding, said Burt. “We’re going to prepare what we believe will be proposal language that will go to the UN and hopefully result in a binding resolution,” she said. “There’s a lot of good work happening on the international stage.”

For decades there have been calls for the UN and other organizations to figure out a way forward as more nations engage in space operations. The 1967 Outer Space Treaty remains the basis for international space law but experts say the treaty has become outdated. For example, it bans the use of weapons of mass destruction in space but countries now deploy dual-use spacecraft that can be used for peaceful and military purposes.

Navy’s UFO-Type Patent Raises Questions

• Brett Tingley at “The War Zone”/The Drive website has been leading the charge on analyzing and reporting on a series of next generation technology patents filed by the U.S. Navy in 2019, and invented by Navy aerospace engineer Dr. Salvatore Pais. These patents include a High Energy Electromagnetic Field Generator and Propulsion System and a Compact Plasma Compression Fusion Reactor. The technology claimed in these patents could revolutionize not only military aviation, but just about everything.

• Between October 2016 and September 2019, the US Navy’s Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division spent $466,000 on testing Pais’ theories. In a reversal, they now say that that the “Pais Effect” could not be proven and the Navy will conduct no further research on it.

• According to a report by Alex Hollings in The National Interest, the Chief Technology Officer of the US Naval Aviation Enterprise, Dr. James Sheehy, has pointed out that China is investing significantly in this field of technology and that it “will become a reality” someday. Sheely told Patent Examiner Philip Bonzell that the United States “would prefer that we hold the patent as opposed to paying forever more to use this revolutionary technology”. And if the Pentagon had, in fact, produced a working model of an electromagnetic propulsion system and a compact fusion reactor, would they reveal it to the public or our military adversaries? At this point, it’s impossible to say whether or not the Navy and Dr. Pais have managed to produce anything truly groundbreaking.

• The patent for the High Energy Electromagnetic Field Generator resembles long-standing theories posited by UFO researchers about the means of propulsion employed by alien visitors. If functional, a HEEMFG could produce massive amounts of power with far reaching military and commercial implications. And The National Interest points out that an electromagnetic propulsion system could allow the Navy to build its own flying saucers.

• A compact, room temperature fusion reactor has long been the holy grail of energy scientists and researchers. While nuclear reactors in everything from power plants to aircraft carriers produce power by splitting a nucleus into two lighter nuclei (ie: splitting the atom), fusion power would involve fusing two or more nuclei together into a single, heavier element – most likely, hydrogen atoms being fused into a single helium one.

• Technically speaking, fusion reactors do already exist, but they’ve never been efficient enough to be used for power production. An efficient fusion reactor could effectively end humanity’s reliance on fossil fuels, or as a weapon end humanity as we know it. Documents released by The War Zone show that a compact fusion reactor could allow for the creation of a “Spacetime Modification Weapon” that would “make the hydrogen bomb seem more like a firecracker, in comparison.”

• As far as creating a super-weapon, we need not go any further than the ‘father of the hydrogen bomb’, physicist Edward Teller who decided to one-up the 10.4 megaton bomb that America detonated at Enewetak Atoll in 1952 by creating a 10,000-megaton nuclear weapon with the capability of destroying a small continent. To put a doomsday weapon like that in the hands of mankind would be pure madness, and, totally unnecessary. Thankfully, Teller’s plan was left on his infamous drawing board.

• Russia, China and the US already have enough nuclear firepower to destroy the world several times over. The largest nuclear weapon ever tested was the “Tsar Bomba” of the Soviet Union on October 30, 1961, with a yield estimated at 50-58 megatons.

• Salvatore Pais’ electromagnetic and fusion technologies wouldn’t be the first to be suppressed by the US government. In 1989, scientist Bob Lazar claimed to have worked on back-engineered UFO technology deep under Area 51 in Nevada. Lazar said that the UFOs’ propulsion was based on directing gravity waves generated by a powerful compact reactor.

• According to US Army Colonel Philip J. Corso, the US government has been extracting new technologies from from alien crashes, such as the infamous Roswell incident, since 1947. Any such technology is considered at least 50 years ahead of current aerospace technology and would be a tightly guarded secret by the US military, on the order of the Manhattan Project.

It has long been claimed by ufologists that the US government has been back-engineering UFOs at Area S4, the ultra secret site within Area 51.

In 1989, scientist Bob Lazar, who claimed to have worked at the base deep in the heart of the Nevada desert, spilled the beans on the study of UFOs — of which he claimed they had several.
The smaller saucer-like UFO he said he was studying, which was called the “sport model,” supposedly was based on directing gravity waves.

This came from a reactor which amplified the gravity waves which extended beyond the atom of Element 115, which he predicted to exist (he would be proved right years later).

Whether any of that is true or not, it is interesting to note that in 2019, the US Navy’s Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) filed a number of seemingly out of this world patents that could, in theory, revolutionize not only military aviation, but just about everything.

According to a report by Alex Hollings in The National Interest, chief among these strange new inventions is a High Energy Electromagnetic Field Generator (HEEMFG), which if functional, could produce massive amounts of power with far reaching military and commercial implications.

The patent also eerily resembles longstanding theories posited by UFO researchers about the means of propulsion seemingly employed by alien visitors.

The Warzone has been leading the charge on analysis on these unusual patents ever since they surfaced two years ago, and are continuing the effort by pouring through hundreds of pages of reports, technical drawings, data, and photos released to them by the Navy.

Believe it or not, an electromagnetic propulsion system that could allow the Navy to build its own flying saucers may not be the craziest thing to come out of these efforts, National Interest reported.

According to these newly released documents, another branch of this work deals with the concept of a compact fusion reactor, which among other things, could allow for the creation of a “Spacetime Modification Weapon.”

These patents were born out of the work of US Navy aerospace engineer Dr. Salvatore Pais, and as crazy as his inventions may sound, the Navy clearly seems to think they are worth exploration, National Interest reported.

So far, it’s been confirmed that the Navy has poured more than US$466,000 into helping this program mature since 2017.

Here’s how a Navy PowerPoint slide labeled “For Internal Use Only” explains the implications of Dr. Pais’ Spacetime Modification Weapon, of course: “Under uniquely defined conditions, the Plasma Compression Fusion Device can lead to development of a Spacetime Modification Weapon (SMW- a weapon that can make the Hydrogen bomb seem more like a firecracker, in comparison). Extremely high energy levels can be achieved with this invention, under pulsed ultrahigh current (I) / ultrahigh magnetic flux density (B) conditions (Z-pinch with a Fusion twist).“

So what exactly is this new technology?

A compact fusion reactor has long been the holy grail of energy scientists and researchers, and to be clear Pais isn’t the first person to suggest that he’s close to pulling it off, National Interest reported.
