The Hunt for Planet X Turns Up a New Solar System Object

by Ashley Strickland                   October 3, 2018                      (cnn.com)

• The International Astronomical Union’s Minor Planet Center has found a small object located in the Inner Oort Cloud at the furthest reaches of our solar system, having a perturbed orbit that astronomers believe is caused by a massive but as yet undetected distant tenth planet, or “Planet X” (including the dwarf planet Pluto). This object, formally known as 2015 TG387 and dubbed “the Goblin”, is about 2½ times farther from the Sun than is Pluto, and has a 40,000-year orbit around the Sun.

• The Goblin never comes close enough to the known giant planets in our solar system to be affected by their gravitational influence. Therefore, it must be another unknown large body much further out in the solar system. “We are very uniform in our sky coverage and can find all types of orbits, yet we seem to only be finding objects with similar types of orbits that are on the same side of the sky, suggesting something is shepherding them into these similar types of orbits, which we believe is Planet X,” said Scott Sheppard, an astronomer at the Carnegie Institution for Science. “I think we are nearing the 90% likelihood of Planet X being real with this discovery,” said Sheppard. “[This] would redefine our knowledge of the Solar System’s evolution.”

• Fellow researchers include Chad Trujilllo of Northern Arizona University and David Tholen of the University of Hawaii. “What makes this result really interesting is that Planet X seems to affect 2015 TG387 the same way as all the other extremely distant Solar System objects. These simulations do not prove that there’s another massive planet in our Solar System, but they are further evidence that something big could be out there,” Trujillo said in a statement.

[Editor’s Note]  Because of the perturbations of the Goblin and other distant objects, they presume that the massive object causing the gravitational pull is a planet. But what if it is an unseen brown dwarf star in our binary star system, which holds its own system of orbiting planets, including the fabled planet Nibiru?

While searching for the mysterious Planet X that some astronomers believe lurks on the edge of our solar system, researchers instead found an extremely distant object they dubbed “the Goblin.” And this object provides compelling evidence for the existence of Planet X.

The object is on the small end of being a dwarf planet, with a 40,000-year orbit — meaning it takes that long to go around the sun. That’s more than 2,000 times the distance between the Earth and the sun. Its current location is about 2½ times farther from the sun than from Pluto.

“I think we are nearing the 90% likelihood of Planet X being real with this discovery,” said Scott Sheppard, an astronomer at the Carnegie Institution for Science.

The Goblin got its nickname because the scientists first observed it around Halloween 2015. It is considered an Inner Oort Cloud object. The Oort Cloud is a predicted bubble around our solar system far beyond Pluto, filled with trillions of icy bodies and the supposed birthplace of long-term comets.

The International Astronomical Union’s Minor Planet Center announced the object, formally known as 2015 TG387, on Tuesday. The researchers, including Sheppard, Northern Arizona University’s Chad Trujilllo and the University of Hawaii’s David Tholen, have also submitted a paper to the Astronomical Journal detailing their findings.

“This new object has the largest orbit of all the extremely distant objects that stay well beyond Pluto,” Sheppard said. Given its orbit, the Goblin never comes close enough to the giant planets in our solar system to be affected by their gravitational influence.

It joins other objects Sheppard and his team have found on the edge of the solar system since 2012. Their isolation makes them unique. “They can be used as probes to understand what is happening at the edge of our solar system,” Sheppard said.

What Is Nibiru Cataclysm? Bogus Theory About Fake Planet Destroying Earth

by Himanshu Goenka               April 13, 2018                 (ibtimes.com)

• The theory of a large planetary object called Nibiru that will either pass very close to or collide with Earth have persisted since 1995 when Nancy Lieder, a Wisconsin woman who claimed to be in contact with the Zetas, an ET group from the Zeta Reticuli star system, said that Nibiru, aka ‘Planet X’, would pass through the inner solar system in May 2003 causing mayhem on Earth. But Leider was also wrong in declaring that the comet Hale-Bopp was actually a distant star. Any such rogue planet four times the size of the Earth has yet to be detected by the most advanced scientific instruments.

• In a 1976 book by Zecharia Sitchin, Sitchen related that according to Sumerian mythology, the planet Nibiru had a long, elliptical 3,600-year orbit around the sun and would soon be traveling through our inner solar system. Believers pegged the arrival of Nibiru as December 21, 2012 to coincide with the ending of the Mayan calendar.

• When Nibiru didn’t arrive in 2012, “Christian numerologist” David Meade claimed that the actual date of Nibiru’s arrival would be Sept. 23, 2017. Then he said it would be a month later in October 2017. Now Meade says that the big day is April 23, 2018. (If you’re reading this post, it didn’t happen.)

• Any theory of a massive planet headed toward Earth has been rejected by space agencies the world over, including NASA. (Not that this means anything.)

[Editor’s Note] The existence of a distant brown dwarf sun along with its orbiting planet ‘Nibiru’ that is in orbit with our central Sun, and the theory that this brown dwarf star would soon travel through the inner solar system are two different things. If this brown dwarf star was going to plow through the inner solar system in the near future, it would be seen by every amateur astronomer on Earth by now. Much of the ancient Sumerian tablet translations made by Zecharia Sitchin has been debunked including a visit from the dreaded Wormwood planet. But this doesn’t mean that such a brown dwarf star doesn’t exist. It may be too dark to see. And it may be accompanied by the planet Nibiru, home to the evil and manipulative Anunnaki civilization.

Theories about the imminent advent of doomsday — when humanity, all life on Earth, or the planet itself — will perish are not new, but in recent years, few have appeared as frequently as those associated with Nibiru. This theory, in its current version, claims a large planetary object (called Nibiru) will either collide with Earth or pass very close to it, effectively causing large-scale destruction, and that this would happen sometime in the early 21st century.

Like all bogus pseudoscience, the Nibiru cataclysm theory has evolved since it was first presented in 1995, its believers constantly shifting the predicted date for doomsday after the earlier date had passed. The credit for coming up with the first iteration of the theory goes to Nancy Lieder, a Wisconsin woman, who claimed aliens from the Zeta Reticuli star system (the binary star system is very real, located about 39 light-years away) communicated with her using an implant in her brain.

Lieder calls herself the “emissary” of the Zetas, the aliens who supposedly singled her out for that role, and runs a website to relay to Earthlings what the extraterrestrials have to say. She claimed a planet-like object, called Planet X, would pass through the inner solar system in May 2003, and that it would cause a slowdown or stoppage of Earth’s rotation, leading to a shift of the poles and ensuing dangerous conditions on the planet.

That Lieder’s information, whether it comes from Zetas or her imagination, is not accurate is clear, given her other outlandish claims, such as Hale-Bopp not being a comet but a distant star. So her description of Planet X (which has been theorized by some astronomers but is yet to be detected by the most advanced scientific instruments we have) as being four time the size of Earth are highly dubious, at best.

Planet Nine Could Be Our Solar System’s Missing ‘Super Earth’

by Samantha Mathewson           October 12, 2017           (Space.com)

• NASA has detected an as yet unseen “Planet 9” determined to be 10 times the mass of the Earth and 20 times farther from the Sun than Neptune.

• Caltech astronomers say that this massive planet is causing bodies in our Solar System, including planets, to tilt.

• This could explain why Kuiper Belt objects orbit in the opposite direction from everything else in the solar system.

• The most common type of planets that have been discovered around other stars are rocky “Super Earths”. Planet 9 may be our Solar System’s Super Earth.

• The astronomers plan to search for the mysterious planet using the Subaru Telescope at Mauna Kea Observatory in Hawaii.

Planet Nine is out there, and astronomers are determined to find it, according to a new statement from NASA. In fact, mounting evidence suggests it’s hard to imagine our solar system without the unseen world.

The hypothetical planet is believed to be about 10 times more massive than Earth and located in the dark, outer reaches of the solar system, approximately 20 times farther from the sun than Neptune is. While the mysterious world still has yet to be found, astronomers have discovered a number of strange features of our solar system that are best explained by the presence of a ninth planet, according to the NASA statement.

“There are now five different lines of observational evidence pointing to the existence of Planet Nine,” Konstantin Batygin, a planetary astrophysicist at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, said in the statement. “If you were to remove this explanation and imagine Planet Nine does not exist, then you generate more problems than you solve. All of a sudden, you have five different puzzles, and you must come up with five different theories to explain them.” [The Evidence for ‘Planet Nine’ in Our Solar System (Gallery)]

In 2016, Batygin and co-author Mike Brown, an astronomer at Caltech, published a study that examined the elliptical orbits of six known objects in the Kuiper Belt, a distant region of icy bodies stretching from Neptune outward toward interstellar space. Their findings revealed that all of those Kuiper Belt objects have elliptical orbits that point in the same direction and are tilted about 30 degrees “downward” compared to the plane in which the eight official planets circle the sun, according to the statement.

Using computer simulations of the solar system with a Planet Nine, Batygin and Brown also showed that there should be even more objects tilted a whopping 90 degrees with respect to the solar plane. Further investigation revealed that five such objects were already known to fit these parameters, the researchers said.

Since then, the astronomers have found new evidence that further supports the existence of Planet Nine. With help from Elizabeth Bailey, an astrophysicist and planetary scientist at Caltech, the team showed that Planet Nine’s influence might have tilted the planets of our solar system, which would explain why the zone in which the eight major planets orbit the sun is tilted by about 6 degrees compared to the sun’s equator.

“Over long periods of time, Planet Nine will make the entire solar-system plane precess, or wobble, just like a top on a table,” Batygin said in the statement.
